From what I see on forums

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 1:38 AM
1.

We should not enmesh the issue of public welfare when talking about politics, especially when its about politicians and not their trade or the process thereof.

Diatribes against politicians, as held by most people, be it on the street or in an academic institution, websites, and media what have yous, tends to lean on a certain personal history. When we talk about a candidate, we find it inevitable to dig their shelves for skeletons, our eagerness is on the fact that he/she has done the world some misdeed. A critique? Not. Because along the highway of that fact-finding leads to that inescapable and mostly controversial, seemingly life-bending adornment of a conclusion that that "chosen one", that isolated, yet not forlorn politician, is not trustworthy. And the issue of trust is the ace, the only, acceptable, ace. Seen wearing your poker face? That's a vote gone. A miniscule, nanosecond smirk is the same velocity of your political dream going to waste.

What follows after that is the generalization of every microscopic blot on the fabric of your history as first-class filth that you would want to rid off. Now every stellar exploit is veiled with malice and not a tad bit of it would be considered moral. Suddenly there are no good intentions. And most people think that's the goodness of it. And now some will proclaim our country's hopeless state.

A decade of these would form a mentality. Few wars won with that as a badge will give us culture.

All of that for the digging of histories of few men.

2.

We cannot equate the histories of these men, these politicians we say, to our welfare. No one is entitled to bring manifest destiny. The fact itself that we have shaped a culture out of the public's randomness of concern and reaction proves to us that the affairs of the public is for the public to put up. The election of a prime governmental seat should just be there to supervise us.

These digging up of histories is rather a folly which could equal our entertainment news. It cannot say what would happen, or what is probable to happen. It lends nothing to the future.

3.

Now if a detailed platform is what is lacking then let us not scrutinize. Let's make one instead. And as to what would constitute this is starving for debate.

Notes augmented

We've enhanced and de-bugged Notes. If you haven't tried it yet, now's the time! You can create a private note when you ban multiple users. You can also delete multiple notes at once. Lastly, paid users have the option to add a note (visible only to you) whenever you add or remove a friend (guaranteed to avoid embarrassing social mishaps). If you don't currently have a paid account, you can upgrade now! It only takes a few minutes and costs less than a bad shopping mall haircut (plus, it's way more fashionable)!

Product tweaks and bug kill

  1. In another effort to zap spam, comments containing links from domains LiveJournal deems untrustworthy are now automatically screened
  2. If you sign up to get notifications of the Writer's Block question of the day, you'll now see the daily question in the email notification, so you'll have a little extra time to ponder before you post. You can subscribe to Writers Block notifications here
  3. The issue causing random comments to vanish has been fixed!
  4. If you visit a LiveJournal page and get prompted to log in, you'll be returned to the same page after you sign in (Thanks, Dreamwidth)!
  5. If you don't edit the timestamp for an entry at all, the entry timestamp will indicate the time the entry was posted instead of the time the Update Journal page was loaded
  6. Comments with paddings/backgrounds render correctly within the comment box (and will no longer wrap outside the box and break frames/margins)

New FCK fixes rich text editor!

  1. We've updated our RTE (Rich Text Editor) to FCKeditor version 2.6.5
  2. When switching from the RTE to HTML editor, links for syndicated feeds are no longer broken
  3. RTE now functions properly in Safari 4.0
  4. An extra line/space will not be auto-inserted whenever you switch from RTE to HTML editor
  5. The insert image link now works correctly in all browsers

LiveJournal Cares

We’re pleased to introduce you to [info]lj_cares, a new LiveJournal community dedicated to raising awareness and funds for U.S. charitable organizations that improve the health and well-being of people around the world. Each month, we’ll spotlight a nonprofit that is making a significant global impact through medical research, public outreach, and/or humanitarian social programs. Charities will be selected in accordance with the U.S. calendar of national health observances based on a high rating (of over 60%) on Charity Navigator and global scope of impact.

In this, our inaugural month of November, we will celebrate national adoption month by offering a charitable virtual gift (priced at $2.99) to support Love Without Boundaries, an organization that saves the lives of orphans with life-threatening diseases and places them in loving homes around the world. LiveJournal will donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of charitable vgifts (we'll cover the cost of credit card transaction fees). To learn more about Love Without Boundaries, please visit [info]lj_cares and read about how they helped save Baby Kang and the Rainbow Twins from fatal illnesses, who are now thriving in nurturing families. You can purchase your Love Without Boundaries gifts in the Virtual Gift shop.

四十八; the beginning of the end

First day of classes, finally. I've had mixed feelings about this day. There was a time when I was excited, and other times when I wish it wouldn't come because the first day of classes for this semester could be the start of many things.

Today, I should take the Law Exams seriously. I should take thesis seriously. I should take my studies seriously. I should finish all the necessary requirements for my Japan trip (no backing out na 'to, please). I should take my responsibilities seriously.

When you take a glance at the things that I have to accomplish in one semester, it may seem daunting. Not to mention the fact that after all this is over, a new life begins: real life. Whatever I have learned for the past 15 years in my life, I would have to apply in the outside world because the fact remains that I am no longer a child, but a person nearing her 20s.

Today, I take that big step towards tomorrow and grow up.

//Hence I must stop my excessive hibernation and begin by waking up and doing what I am supposed to do.
It's interesting to note that what kept me asleep today was the sight of food, when I tend to neglect eating whenever I am awake. It must be my subconscious.
EDIT@08:16 UTC/GMT. Wow. That was ugly. I expected it to go for 30 minutes and have maybe 1 minute of broken connectivity. Instead it lasted over 4 hours and we had 10 minutes of downtime directly related to the load balancer upgrades and then another 5-10 minutes of downtime when our primary Pingback database server crashed and the secondary couldn't take over; which could have been indirectly caused by the network upgrade missing a self-VIP.

Anyways, we're up, we're working, the load balancers are barely breaking a sweat right now and I need some food and a shot of whiskey. I don't even *like* whiskey!!

Thanks [info]mhwest and [info]dnewhall for helping out!

---

On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice.

Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials.

We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait!

As usual, I will be updating status.livejournal.org before and after, just in case you are not able to reach our main website during the work.

I reallyreallyreally will dig a hole right now and hide in it forever and ever and ever.
I am pathetic.

//
It's Lolo's 5th death anniversary today and we celebrated it with a mass and a blessing of his urn, then a dinner at a nearby KTV restaurant with extended family (since 85% of our relatives are already living in the States). Met my cousins once again--my Lolo's brother's grandchildren. HAHA. And, well... similar to what happened over a year ago, nagkakahiyaan pa rin kami. :| It runs in the genes. :\ I do hope we get to celebrate Christmas with them from now on para naman mas masaya. It gets lonely when more than half of your family is already living in the US.

I had a nice time; I hope we get to know them better. May libreng Starbucks pa kaming tatlo ng mga pinsan ko from Tito Eric and Tita Cathy. Nice one. :D I can't wait for their baby to arrive. I miss taking care of babies.

But then, amidst all the joy, something made me really sad and because of that, I just want to hide myself beneath the earth for the mean time. Aiiieee. No, seriously I really want to. T_T

And as with any family gathering, there would always be the never-ending kwentuhan and stuff like that. News got around that I am planning to take up law and everyone's anticipating it. Pressure. :| And so I told Goldie, who kindly reminded me of the pressure I am facing, "lagot ka kay Tito Ronald dahil may mababa kang score sa 1st sem mo. *insert evil laugh*" Translation: He's expecting you to become a great nurse so that he could hire you in his clinic in Florida. Feel the pressure. LOL. Shortly after, she lost the game she was playing in my brother's phone. Revenge = success. *EVIL LAUGH*

*sigh*

No, that's not a set of letters randomly typed on keyboard--that's what we'll be encountering this sem.
Mercy killing please?
NOT! We shall slay the dragon and battle its minions!
ARRRGGGGHHH!!!!!! the horror! the pain! the agonizing pain!!!

ENOUGH!

Ok, so my blockmates' autism and their anxiety are so contagious that I'm also reacting, blogging and thinking this way!
Looovvaaapalooozaaa!

Seriously, I'm thrilled to have this Oh-so-great-lawyer-legend as my professor! I cannot wait...to be eaten alive!
If I'm lucky enough to have survived the upcoming torture  genocide this coming week, then I'll major update this blog about my face to face with *thunder and lightning* the great Amurao.

can we handle this?
bring it on?
tap out! tap out!
are we still all in this together?
or probably a me, myself and i battle?

Or baka ako lang. HAHAHA...

Ganito kasi yun.

Pero, wala lang...it's only now that I've come to appreciate those things. Ngayon na graduate na ako and currently enrolled in another academic institution in pursuance of another degree.

So, ganito kasi yun.  'Twas my first time to actually enroll in Beda (incomparable naman kasi yung first enrollment as freshman nung first sem). So anyway, 'yun nga enrollment ko sa Beda. There was an online registration. So okay yun. Mabilis. Then, the manual enrollment... TADAN!!! ANG BAGAL!!! INABOT AKO NG DALAWANG ORAS!!! HANEP!!! Isipin mo yun. I know that it's not good to compare pero as one of my current blockmate puts it, "the longest time it took me in enrolling in La Salle was 15 minutes."

So syempre, sanay ako sa mabilis at high tech na sistema in my former school. So, after I finished enrolling medyo di na so happy happy ang timpla ko. Diretso ako ngayon sa bahay. To my surprise, another blockmate. This time, someone from UP (oo yung peyups, yung maraming isaw ba :D) posted his appreciation to Beda. Super saya nya because it only took him two hours to enroll. Sa isip-isip ko, hello ano ba?! ang tagal kaya!!!

THEN IT HIT ME...

Super masyado akong na-baby sa La Salle. Lining up for two hours  for enrollement got on my nerves, while my blockmate was soooo happy and amazed that he only lined up for two hours. Such difference! Grabe. When I saw how thankful he was, as compared to how devastated I was... nahiya naman daw ako sa sarili ko. *bulang nag-pop bigla*

So there. I am really thankful for the kind of efficiency that my former school provided me with while I was there. However, it's time to live in the real world and try to go with the flow. I should be more patient and appreciative from now on.

The empire strikes back

In recent weeks, we've taken huge steps towards blocking spam accounts on LiveJournal. In fact, we've suspended as many as 30,000 accounts in a single day! We've implemented several pre-emptive measures to prevent the creation of spam accounts, and we've honed our detection of suspicious content. Spam bots are a crafty lot, so we'll continue to refine our tactics and keep up the good fight to keep you safe from spam attacks on LiveJournal.

RSS feeds again

If you're addicted to [info]xkcd_rss, [info]icanhaschzbrgr, or other syndicated feeds, we're pleased to report that we've resolved the update error that was mucking up your RSS feeds. While content was being pulled correctly, it wasn't being posted to the feeds themselves. Late last week, we finally nailed down what we hope was the root problem, so content should post properly. We thank you for your patience.

Wicked is indeed wicked!
I wonder is the upcoming movie would do justice to the musical, forget the book (HAHA).

Wicked the musical is the "fairytale" version of Wicked the book by Gregory Mcguire.
And although the book did not have a happy ending, still the story of the Wicked Witch of the West is one of the best "background" stories ever told.

With Wicked, it's indeed true that not all great stories end in happily ever after.

The Road Not Taken

  • Nov. 6th, 2009 at 12:01 AM
by Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
two roads diverged in a wood, and I --
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Welcome to my everyday life! Haha.
Watashi no mainichi jinsei e youkoso!
Japanese fail!

And I'm not even kidding. Today, I woke up at around 6am, checked the net for a few minutes, slept until 11am, at brunch and checked the net once more, took a bath, prayed at around 1:30, slept at 2pm, woke up at 5pm and began surfing the net once more. Talk about a productive day?

But honestly, I find this day rather productive not because I did a lot, but because one thing I did today made a lot of significance. I earnestly prayed once more after quite some time. I prayed for myself and for many other troubled people as well. Medyo bad trip pa kasi nawawala yung rosary ko for St. Therese's prayer. After doing so, I slept. Or rather, I tried to sleep, not failing to wake up in between brief naps. I was trying desperately to calm myself because I was feeling incredibly anxious about something I'm not really sure of. (This reminds me of the really bad anxiety/panic attacks I had when I was younger.) By 5pm, I got up from my bed and just felt great.

The presence of other people also made me feel better. I'm just really thankful. :D

Now that I'm feeling better, it's time for work. Hahaha. XD

Defying Gravity!

  • Nov. 4th, 2009 at 7:01 PM
I think Lea Michele looks like Idina Menzel.

Anyway, so much for trying to convince people about the similarities between Lea and Idina.
At long last, Glee featured a song from my favorite musical, Wicked (which by the way, also stars Idina Menzel)

Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I'm through with playing by the rules
Of someone else's game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It's time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes: and leap!

It's time to try
Defying gravity
I think I'll try
Defying gravity
And you can't pull me down!

I'm through accepting limits
''cause someone says they're so
Some things I cannot change
But till I try, I'll never know!
Too long I've been afraid of
Losing love I guess I've lost
Well, if that's love
It comes at much too high a cost!
I'd sooner buy
Defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye
I'm defying gravity
And you can't pull me down

Although I am a huge fan of Glee. I could say that I am a bigger fan of Wicked the Musical. Although for most songs, I find Glee's version better, this time, I find WICKED's version of Defying Gravity better.

BUT I still lalalalallloveeee Kurt Hummel's voice. :D

Bright Star

  • Nov. 3rd, 2009 at 4:36 PM
by John Keats

Bright star, would I were stedfast as thou art--
Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night
And watching, with eternal lids apart,
Like nature's patient, sleepless Eremite,
The moving waters
at their priestlike task
Of pure ablution round earth's human shores,
Or gazing on the new soft-fallen mask
Of snow upon the mountains and the moors--
No--yet still stedfast, still unchangeable,
Pillow'd upon my fair love's ripening breast,
To feel for ever its soft fall and swell,
Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,
Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,
And so live ever--or else swoon to death

Ateneo essay, why can't I ever finish youuuuu? T_T

//My entries before contained one-liners such as this. But with the emergence of Twitter and Plurk, that habit of posting short journal entries has long been gone. I really swore to myself that one day I will delete my Plurk and Twitter. When that one day will come, I don't know.

Another turn of the century is unfolding before all of us, and I am resisting the change. This is bad.
